Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp
2003
The
new challenge for competitive cyclists:
The
Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2003 is a long-distance road race
crossing the Alps in seven stages.
Riding
through the most beautiful landscapes and across the most
spectecular passes, the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp offers you
an unforgettable event as well as excellent achievements.
The
event is presented by TOUR, Europe’s largest cycling
magazine. The successful concept of the
adidas-BIKE-Transalp Challenge ( a MTB stage race
organized by the magazine BIKE) has been adapted and
transformed into the equivalent for road cyclists.
The main sponsor is JEANTEX, manufacturer of sportswear
with its company headquarters in Hamburg, Germany.
With
up to 1000 participants the event starts in South Germany and leads in seven stages across Austria, the southern part
of Tyrol and the Trentino to the final destination in
Garda, Italy.
Each stage has a length of 90 to 145 kilometers and the
difference of altitude is 2,000 to 4,000 meters so that
the overall length is about 820 kilometers and the overall
climbing approximately 20,500 meters. Altogether the
participants have to master 18 faszinating passes in the
Ötztaler Alps, the Dolomites and in the Trentino.
-
The
entry fee amounts to 495.00 Euros per person.
-
The
participants start in teams of two in one of
the following five
categories: Men, Women, Masters (added age of both is
more than 80), Grand Masters (added age of both is
more than 100).
-
The
time of the team´s second finisher will be
measured.
-
The
prize money of 20,000 Euros will be distributed
to the winners of each overall category.
With
this new concept the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2003 is one of
the world´s most challenging and interesting cycling
events for
road cyclists.
The
start takes place at ten o´clock on June 29th 2003 at the
Passionspielhaus in Oberammergau and leads over the stages
Sölden, Sterzing, St. Vigli, Corvara, Levico and Folgaria
to the final destination Garda.
The roads will not be blocked but signposted and secured
through escorts (motorcylces) and control positions.
Riders are also guarded by race marshalls and leading cars
and a broom wagon.
The
daily start is in the center of each village hosting the
TOUR-Transalp. Professional time measurement (via
transponder, photo-finsh) takes place at the finish line.
Dinner will be provided in a parish hall or tent every
night starting at 6pm. At 7pm an awarding ceremony takes
place that includes the
announcement of the stage winners and the awarding of
leader
jerseys and prizes, provided by the villages hosting the
TOUR
Transalp.
Some
important rules and regulations guarantee safety
and more accurate presentability in the media. E.g.
helmets, no team cars, team classement, etc.
The teams have the possibility to engage the TOUR-Transalp
Camp (located in a school or church hall) or to book a
hotel (bed and breakfast). Participants who choose the
camp need to bring their own sleeping bag and camping mat.
The costs for the overnight stay in the camp are 120 Euros
per person (8 nights) and include
breakfast.
All
other teams have the option to book a hotel plus breakfast
at the tourist offices in the villages hosting the TOUR
Transalp
. There
will be a staff of about 45 people working for the
JeantexTOUR-Transalp provided by the organizer, 15 field
helpers, 10
mobile control positions, two police officers and up to 50
local
control positions.
The
time spent on preparation including all authorizations
sums up to one year.
