Sospirolo, a small town with a population of about 3000, is situated on the slopes of the Dolomites and is located about 15 kilometers from the provincial capital of Belluno. More that 60% of the territory enclosed within the municipal boundaries it mountainous and a part is included in the National Park of the "Dolomiti Bellunese". For the most part the activity in Sospirolo is agriculture based, for even during the most recent phases of industrialization the local population remained rooted in their traditions and customs. It was here in this environment that the Tegner family settled, having come here from Sweden, as my father told me. The Italian branch of the Tegner family does not include famous nor titled persons, but in general one could say that the common trait which united them was a certain sense of pride, particularily for the fact that they were capable and tireless workers. For many of them, their lives consisted exclusively of making the best of it in the face of difficulties and sacrifices. I have now finished this small piece of research, having worked hard to do so and not without some personal sacrifice (I would have prefered to dedicate my time to my hobbies, my wife .... or other pleasures). On the other hand, it was my great pleasure to be able to meet some of my distant relatives and to learn more about our forefathers and thereby bring to light their stories. I hope that this humble work serves to keep alive the memories of our forefathers, and for those of us still alive, spread over various parts of the globe, I hope it serve as a thread which will kept to keep us united, even though we live many thousands of kilimeters apart.
